The region of Tar is a 500 square mile depression in Fouchard Ridge on the northern coast of DreadNought Sea. The region is mostly flat, except for Taro Hill (which rises five hundred feet from the center of the region) and is surrounded by cliffs over 1000 feet high.

Cooper's swamp in the North-West corner of the region, is fed by an ice flow at the top of the cliff. This flow drops chunks of ice and rock into the swamp, which are then harvested with great difficulty and shipped to Tar. Cooper's swamp then feeds the Teal River which flows through Lake Aietian down to the sea where the City of Tarsec sits.

The area gets very little rain, so except for the grass lands around the river and the plains in the North-East corner tended to by the Cult of Demeter, the ground is rocky and broken with a sandy beach along the sea.
