The World of Terramunde

Grantebryce

Grantebryce (GRANT-uh-brice) lies just south of the great marshes of Sanfhéith on the Creant River, about 50 miles north-by-east of Lundenwic.

It is the seat of Shire Grentesca in the Kingdom of Myrce.

History

While settled by elves since time immemorial, the first Imperial structure was a small hill fort built in A.I. 823. Within fifty years, a human settlement had grown around the fortification.

The shire became part of the Kingdom of Ænglar when Wihstān Uffinga was crowned in 1303. In A.I. 1421, King Aldƿulf Ennius built a castle on the site of the original fort.

The town was incorporated in A.I. 1454, Universitas Cantabrignes was established in A.I. 1462, and the city was officially chartered in A.I. 1484 by King Æthelbeorn.

The Steresbrigge Faire, which now runs the full month of Hāleġma, was first held in A.I. 1564.

Although Ænglar fell to the Denalagh in A.I. 1622, the first Dwarven rulers did not arrive until six years later. The shire remained under the Denelagh until it was annexed by Æthelflæs Ældrǣd in A.I. 1658.

Population

Of the nearly 3,000 residents of Grantebryce, around half are human. Dwarves and elves each account for about one-fifth of the townsfolk, and the remaining tenth is a mixture of half-elves, halflings, and gnomes.

Climate

Grantebryce is located in the driest region of Albyrne. The weather is mild, with mostly clement weather in the summer months and the winters usually brumal.

Buildings

The colleges of Universitas Cantabrigiensis are scattered throughout the town. There are seven temples and several chapels. The castle still sits upon a hill and several large manors lie on the towns edges.
